‘Sir Kay was not a good actor’ — Yemi Solade goes for Isbae U's late father on 'Curiosity Made Me Ask'

Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has claimed that late Yoruba actor Kamal Adebayo, popularly known as Sir Kay, was not a good actor despite his prominence in the Yoruba film industry.

Solade made the comment while featuring on the latest episode of Isbae U’s Curiosity Made Me Ask.

Sir Kay was the father of media personality Isbae U and a colleague of Solade in the Nigerian film industry.

During the conversation, Solade explained why he had chosen not to venture into movie production, saying he was unwilling to take financial risks with his life.

When Isbae U suggested that people were already taking risks by casting Solade in their movies, the veteran actor responded by questioning whether the host had ever featured in a serious cinema movie.

He then brought up Isbae U’s late father, saying Sir Kay had never appeared in a “solid” cinema movie.

Isbae U defended his father, insisting that he was “a very good actor.”

However, Solade disagreed, describing Sir Kay as a “stuck actor” who was mostly known for playing tout or “omo ita” roles.

When Isbae U specifically asked whether Sir Kay was not a good actor, Solade responded: “No, no, he was not a good actor but he acted.”

Isbae U eventually ended the exchange, saying, “I can’t fight his battle for him.”

Sir Kay was a prominent figure in the Yoruba movie industry and became known for his portrayal of bad-boy characters and his distinctive slang.

The actor died in December 2022.
